Singulair Alternatives
Other Drugs You Can Buy
Singulair (montelukast) is a medication prescribed to patients who experience difficulty of breathing due to asthma. It can also be prescribed to patients who experience seasonal and perennial (year round) asthma caused by allergies.
Plavix
Plavix (clopidogrel bisulfate) helps prevent heart attacks and strokes by keeping platelets in the blood from joining together and creating clots. If you are taking Singulair and have asthma attacks, you should talk to your doctor, as a possible side effect of Singulair is unusual bleeding. This could be masked if you are taking other medications since Plavix treats the blood.
Lipitor
Lipitor is used to treat symptoms of high cholesterol along with a low fat diet. If you are taking Singulair, you should watch your urine, as both drugs can cause side effects in the color and other aspects of urine.
Advair
Advair is prescribed to prevent asthma attacks, or to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Singulair also treats asthma, so you should not take both at once. Your doctor should decide which drug is best for your particular situation.
Nexium
Nexium is used to treat acid reflux disease and to repair damage to the esophagus due to acid reflux disease. Nexium must be taken one hour prior to meals, whereas Singulair can be taken with or without a meal. Also, Singulair can’t be prescribed to children under 15, while Nexium can be taken by children as young as one year of age.
Prevacid
Prevacid (lansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor and is prescribed to decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach, as well as treat ulcers and esophagitis. Singulair treats asthma and should not interfere with this drug.
